Our goal as Christians is divine union with God, our creator. To achieve this goal, we must identify and eliminate all things that separate us from God. One of the main separators is sin. We must learn what sin is and how to eliminate it to achieve union with God. I want you to become aware of all the sins in your life—the obvious sins and the not-so-obvious sins. I want you to be able to identify it, and then be able to eliminate it. This is the way to achieve union with God. This book is meant to wake you up from the denial of your sins. If you want to water down the Bible to meet your needs, wants, or desires, that’s not how it works. That’s justifying your sins, and I doubt that God will let you justify whatever you did when you stand before him and account for your life. If you want to follow Jesus, you need to follow everything, not just the things you like or agree with. The whole purpose of following Jesus is that we align ourselves with God, not for God to align himself with us. God is the righteous one, and we are the sinners. We need to adapt and change our behavior to the behavior of God. So if this book makes you feel uncomfortable or convicted, or if it makes you look differently at yourself because of your sin, then that’s a good thing.
This book is for those who are willing to take Jesus’s hand and go on a journey of life change—that is, when you are willing to take a hard look at the dark places and say, “I don’t want that in my life anymore.” For those who are willing to change, Jesus promises them a helper and a guide, and that is the Holy Spirit. There are no better guides than Jesus and the Holy Spirit. With Jesus and the Holy Spirit, you can turn your life into something worthy of God’s acceptance. You can’t be a sinner and glorify God at the same time. It’s impossible. This is why we must address the sin in our lives so that we can start to glorify God.
